During one of our recent adventures, we went on a pelagic tour out of Newport, Oregon. While on this trip, I began thinking about Parakeet Auklets. I was hoping to find one during this trip, but I guess Rhinoceros Auklet had to suffice. Anyways, during a lull in activity, I posed to Erik: what birds can you think of that are named for other birds? We came up with a small list: Gull-billed Tern, Swallow Tanager, Swallow-tailed Kite, Pigeon Guillemot.
Then I posed it to social media and have developed a fairly robust list. This list is still in progress, so please send us the ones you've thought of! Also, species are listed in order that they are received so don't expect taxonomic or alphabetic.
